Bangers

Woohoo!

Made it to Thailand!

Feel better just being here.

After sitting on Khao Sarn for an hour or so I ran into fire-sticks Greg.
(I KNEW I would see someone I know..always happens..)

He of Jaipur, India and Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka.

Anyway I think I'm drunk; and this keyboard covered in Thai characters is making it impossible to type!

Thoughts

Being sick is REALLY starting to annoy me.

I am thinking of trying something different when I get back home...maybe buy a van and drive a bit in Oz, then possibly head over to NZ to hang with my bro (Andy) for a while. He has a house in Queenstown and a block somewhere near Wellington(?) that I might help him build on. Wouldn't mind actually living and working in NZ for a while, just to see what all the fuss is about. A LOT of people I have met the last few years have raved about it..and they all seemed like fairly clued up folks...

Either way I don't want to get back into fulltime work if I can at all avoid it. As you may know I am now an evil land baron..so I don't have any great urge to save oodles of cash...just enough to tread water, pay the bills and occasionally go on a (budget) few months holidays.

This SHOULD be achievable..I mean I have spent less than $1000 Aus for the last month (not including flight out), and I could have done it a lot cheaper if I had been 100% in control of the itinerary. For example you can rent a house here in certain (nice) parts of the Philippines for about 2500 Peso a month..That's about $65 Aussie, or about $45 US I think....

Anyway...this is just me verbalising my latest and greatest thoughts on life.

I'm always interested to debate such issues of balance and goals etc..so please comment.

I'm hopefully going to go see Star Wars III today (here it opens 10 days later than the rest of the world for some reason)

xx

Note to self: Changed $200AU at the Bank of Bernadette the other day.

Why travel solo?

I just read this in a newspaper article (The Age).

I have to say I agree whole heartedly..especially the bit about showering :)

- You can travel when you want to and be flexible.
- You make decisions - good and bad.
- There's nobody to argue with.
- No one cares if you wear the same clothes or don't shower.
- It's easier to meet the local people and absorb the culture.
- You really only need to be alone when you want to be alone - you can chose to hook up with fellow travellers.
- Greater opportunities for new experiences, the result being better stories when you return home.
- You can sleep in.
- You usually get a double bed to yourself.
- No need to compromise.
- You can eat when and where you like.
- You get the window seat on the plane.

There wasn't a list of the bad things about solo travelling...
But off the top of my head I'd say:

-You don't have anyone to reminisce with about experiences
-You get bored
-You get slack
-It can be more expensive for travel and accom
-Never having to compromise can make you a bit of a sociopath (even after you get home)
-You don't have anyone to tell you it's time to have a shave or change clothes :)
